Rostelecom signed a settlement agreement resolving the situation in relation to its subsidiary CJSC "GlobalTel". As a result, the Group of companies "Rostelecom" has become the only creditor of its subsidiaries and increased its stake in its authorized capital up to 100% gained full control over the exclusive operator global mobile satellite communication Globalstar in Russia.

Russian ground segment system Globalstar includes 3 gateway stations located on the infrastructure of JSC "Rostelecom" in the Moscow region, Novosibirsk region and the Khabarovsk territory. "GlobalTel" service area includes all territory of the Russian Federation and a significant portion of the Pacific waters.

Updated Globalstar satellite constellation allows us to provide high quality of satellite telephone communication. A new generation of space vehicles has a long life, designed for at least until the end of 2025, which provides the perspective provision of mobile satellite communication services. Today there are about 40,000 subscribers of Globalstar services in Russia.

At this moment the satellite communication in sparsely populated, remote and high-latitude areas is actually the only and the best available form of communications. In addition, the network "GlobalTel" will not require revision of the existing infrastructure of our company, and this greatly simplifies its implementation in an existing package of our services. We see great potential in this direction”, - said the Executive Vice-President Alexander Rogovoi.

"Our goal is to make this product popular in all segments: large business, Telecom operators, M2M and individuals. Primarily, mobile satellite communications interesting for large, geographically dispersed organizations that have a spread geographic reach. This technology can be used in areas with high probability of occurrence of emergencies, as well as persons working in remote areas. The presence in the product line "GlobalTel" inexpensive satellite transmitters will allow us to offer cost effective solutions in M2M segment, for creating new and expanding areas of application of existing telemetry systems," - he said.

Rostelecom plans to further develop and expand the range of high-tech services mobile satellite communications Globalstar. Their use will ensure the coherent formation of competitive solutions, including different telecommunication technologies, to ensure universal access, or build fragments of corporate customer networks in remote areas.
